Platinum Exterior Solutions recently completed a full exterior clean of a coastal brick unit complex including all external brickwork and concrete areas around the property.
There was heavy longstanding buildup of coastal salt and organic material across the building. With sections reaching approximately 10 metres high, this was a complex job that required careful planning and control throughout the cleaning process.
Planning the Work
We soft washed and applied light pressure to the building’s brick exterior and pressure cleaned the driveways and concrete areas.
To reach the higher sections, we hired an elevated work platform. This allowed us to access the upper brickwork and give it the same attention as the rest of the building.
We also had to consider the surrounding community. With people close by, it was important to control the cleaning process and be mindful of those around us.
Taking Care Around the New Windows
The building had new windows recently installed, so we needed to take particular care around the windows, frames and surrounding finishes.
We used a low strength chlorine solution, balancing the cleaning needed to remove the heavy buildup with care for these new surfaces.
Controlling the application and thoroughly rinsing around the windows were important parts of the process.
Making the Right Call on Safety
The property was in a very exposed coastal area, and high winds were a challenge. At one stage, we had to reschedule the work because the conditions weren’t suitable.
For us, getting the job done properly includes knowing when to reschedule a job. We weren’t prepared to push ahead in conditions that could compromise safety, especially using an elevated work platform.
Working With Owners and Tenants
We worked with owners and tenants to coordinate the cleaning around their needs. As our soft washing process uses a chlorine based cleaning solution, communication was an important part of planning the work.
One resident had particular concerns about exposure. We discussed the work with her and arranged to clean her section while she was away from the building.
For us, looking after a property also means looking after the people who live there. Taking the time to listen and adjust the schedule was an important part of this job.
The Finished Job
Our team completed the project over two days, cleaning the full brick exterior and all concrete areas.
